Have used the Samsung Q1 or a year now2010-04-214 / 5
Bought this over a year ago prior to deployment to Iraq. I wanted something that could easily be carried in my ruck sack and used to read books, watch movies, listen to music. It easily met all of those criteria and I had no operational issues for that period of time even though conditions were extremely dusty and very hot. I am back home now and I still use it every day. I dont use it as my main computer but I have it set up on my desk top and use it to track real time information.

Some of the negatives of this device. The processor is very underpowered. I ensured that when I purchased this device that I picked the core solo processor with windows XP as the operationg system. Vista will dog this system down. The A110 processor is very energy efficient compared to the core solo processor but is very underpowered. The core solo running windows XP seemed to work fine without too many issues though it is still slightly underpowered.

Also the keyboard that comes with the device is too small. I used a small portable usb keyboard for serious typing and if I needed to type in a few words I pecked them in with the stylus rather than use the keyboard.

Finally the last negative was the amount of time that it took to power up completely before it was usable. From turning the switch on til I was able to actually use the device took approximately 7 minutes. This was a function of the processor being underpowered. Tweaking what program load on startup will have an impact on the startup usability time.

Some positives. This small ultra portable computer has all the peripheral ports to attach a large monitor and keyboard. I have it currently connected to a kvm switch and use the same keyboard and mouse with my large desktop computer. The built in WiFi worked great in the various aiports/starbucks/etc all over the country. The camera with a usb headset was sufficient that I was able to do a VTC skype from Baghdad back to New York with the family on Christmas and whenever I wanted to. One feature that I really liked was the fingerprint scanner. With all of my travels having to connect to public WiFi connections, it was nice to be able to use my fingerprint to log into the various accounts that I needed access to without typing in passwords. A great way to defeat a keylogger program.

Hope this helps.

Even with Vista, this unit performs exceptionally well. I had recently upgraded to Windows 7 and its even better.

The one I bought is so slow it won't even play MP3s. Samsung, You should be ashamed!

A game changer...2009-05-025 / 5
Simply put, this device changes the way I practice medicine. I was looking for a device to review electronic medical records while seeing my patients. A notebook screen would have presented a barrier between me and my patients, and a desktop screen would have required me to turn my back. This little 2 lb handheld full windows vista touch screen device allows me to unobtrusively review all of my records with my patients both sitting and standing. Mouse, who needs a mouse, just point on the screen with your index finger! It has a nice bright screen, great battery life, full integrated microphone, webcam, camera. One touch internet connect button. Can't wait to install Skype. Two USB ports including one one the top, very convenient for plugging in a wireless 3G modem. I'll be able to review my records anywhere. Very handy fingerprint security sensor. Keyboard on sides is small for my fingers and not backlit. Still I'll be able to install my voice recognition program and input data mainly by voice soon. There is a handy voice recognition program included that controls the device fairly well and do learn your speech as well. It's just that my Dragon medical 10 program recognizes voice so much better. Windows Vista supports a touch screen which is helpful, but I can't scroll do with two fingers as I could do on an apple touch pad that would be very helpful. I find windows business Vista quite complex to set up, I used an IT guy, but once configured it can do remarkable things. Play netflix streaming movies without a hitch. I barely feel it's weight when I throw it in the bag. I'm just amazed that the Ultra mobile PC hasn't caught on. I'm just not sure it's been marketed properly. All my IT guys didn't even know it existed and were amazed! Samsung really needs to market this to doctors and anyone else that need a full computer in the field.
Nice product.2008-10-205 / 5
I really wanted a smaller PC that I could travel with and would be fairly reliable. I mainly do things like use Word or play games.

This is slow out of the box. Tweak it, get the model with XP; do everything you can to get the speed to a point you can work with. With a little work (in my case using vLite to kill some of Vista can do to a system) and some smart software choices, this can be an awesome miniature system.

The major issues I've noticed with this comes from the hard drive and the processor.

The hard drive is just small. 80GB can be enough for some people. I was able to get what I wanted on the system with about 30GB to spare to cycle out games and videos from time to time later on when I start running out of room. Definitely figure out what your storage needs are.

The processor? It's Intel. And yes you can go back and forth about AMD and Intel and this or that, but when it comes down to it I've had better experiences with AMD when it comes to my needs over Intel. So why not choose a UMPC with AMD? I love this pc's design over anything else I saw out there.

Other things to note:
- The battery life (generally 6 hours) is more than adequate for my needs away from a plugin.
- If you're into it, there are some additional items for the UMPC. (Car charger, protective cases, etc.)
- The QWERTY keyboard layout is odd for me to use. It uses a different split on the keyboard than I'm used to (I'm used to the split being where the normal hand placement for the keys should be) so typing is an issue at times (use a usb keyboard for anything more than a sentence or two).

I haven't run into an issue yet with this system and it can really pack a punch if you treat it right.
