Not Worth It2010-02-241 / 5
Every WD hard drive I have purchased in the past has performed well and lasted a long time. I haven't had this drive a year, and I have already had to replace the case twice. I was using this drive at work when the PC would not recognize it. I took it home and still nothing. It wasn't until I went online and read a bunch of reviews and articles on troubleshooting the drive that I realized the case is crap. I swapped the case for another since it was too late to take it back and WD would take forever to send it back if I sent it to them. The last case worked for maybe 6 months before it gave out. Not only does the case not work but neither does the drive. At the same time as my My Book purchase, I purchased a Hitachi 1 TB OEM 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive for 69.99 and case for 7.99, and it is still going strong. Sometimes you just can't go by a name.
Perfect but crashed , but works again2010-02-214 / 5
this product recently crashed, but i think its due to my fault. i never defragmented it since i got it, and its been a year now.... it is working now, after it crashed by a miracle, some how i got it to work and immediately defragmented it, and now its ok... i couldnt defragment it because windows wouldn't let me so i had to download a defragmenter (ex:defragler) from onlin and now its good, it works again, i have to re-format it to make it 100% healthy again BUT i cant cuz i dont have the space to back up my stuff on the pc, which is because its a Terabyte... but besides that i recommend buying this product, looks good, its got a e-lock at the back for protection against theft... its good...
Has Some flaws, but nothing's Perfect.2010-02-144 / 5
I've Had one of these for over a year, and I almost filled it up already. I may have dropped it once or twice but it's still good. I have had it on for quite a while, and it still stays on, though the only main problem I've had with this product is after a while of having it and storing it, it has stopped working an infortunate amount of times, now it's to the point to where if I don't keep it at a certain point on my book shelf, it won't work at all, though I've kept it there for over 3 months, and never had a problem until just recently, though it always comes back. I guess my conclusion would be that it's a fighter if I ever saw one, and it's definetley worth the asking price!
Did not even bother to plug it in2010-02-141 / 5
First, let me say that I did not buy this product at , but I am trying to put the word out wherever you can buy one of these. I did not even plug it in and I can tell you that it is not worth the money - just read the "safety instructions" once and you will understand the company cannot possibly be serious about their product or their business as there are at least thirteen mistakes just on the one page. But do not stop there - I purchased a brand new, shrink wrapped product from a store only to get it home to find an already chewed, discarded piece of gum in the box that contains the cords.

I am unsure which of these two things disgusted me more. Whether the product came from the factory with the additional flavor, or if it was purchased, opened, resealed, returned, and re-sold I cannot say, but regardless of the chewing gum, I refuse to plug a product into my computer if the company cannot even be bothered to proofread one page of safety intructions prior to printing however many thousands of copies went into their products. I do not ask for perfection in everything, but a little bit of pride in workmanship goes an awfully long way in helping me trust a company that I am about to connect to a $1,200 computer and put all of my life's data onto.

Boo Western Digital is about all I can say.
GREAT DURABlE HARDDRVIE2010-02-125 / 5
This was my first external hard drive and having heard good thing about Western Digital I decided to go with their My Book 1 TB Hard Drive. At the time 1TB was considered huge and was one of the largest out there. I love this hard drive, absolutely love it. I haven't had any problems with it though the power cord has a short but that's my fault. I didn't take case of this drive as best I should. On that not I've also dropped it once or twice and to my surprise it was completely fine!...except I kinda separated the plastic casing on one of those drops but since it's happened I still continued to use it as my main drive for months later with no side effects. I was very happy with this purchase, the one problem I did have with it was that the casing was plastic and not metal. All I can say is my hard drive has been to hell and back and it's survived.
