RUN, do not walk away from this product!2009-02-151 / 5
My Drobo failed, and I lost about 1.6 TB of data. I spent a month with their customer support. They spent all of their time trying to figure out how it wasn't their fault, none of their time trying to help me. In the end they basically said tough s***, you are on your own.

I can not stress this enough: THIS PRODUCT WILL NOT PROTECT YOUR DATA. What you are buying here is a glorified expandable hard drive shell. The company is also appallingly unsympathetic to their customers who have lost data.

I have lost so much irreplaceable stuff thanks to this. PLEASE don't make the same mistake I did. Get a NAS or use a software raid solution.
Power Option?2008-12-285 / 5
I love the DROBO. It iss a absolutely easy and FANTASTIC back up device for someone like me who really doesn't know anything about setting up a RAID array. It even looks cool on my desk. It was very easy to set up and get working. My only complaint is that it does not have a Power Off Button. When I turn off my computer I have to reach back behind the DROBO and unplug the power supply; then I have to remember to re-plug it in when I turn my computer on. That just sucks. Other than that its AWESOME!
Practically idiot-proof2008-12-245 / 5
To say I am technologically challenged is an understatement. I know vaguely what needs done, but I have no clue how to do it. I knew I needed to back up my data, after several crashed hard drives taught me that hard lesson. I have a macbook with airport . I was able to use this with time capsule so the back ups are automatic. It took minimal configuration and the instructions were clear enough for someone like me. This was money well spent. I think it is great. Now that I have invested in this, I am sure I will never have another hard drive crash again, but I I have plenty of redundant storage for for movies and music
Great concept, simple to use & setup...2008-12-165 / 5
XarisStudio.com is a professional photography & design studio in Arizona, and we first came across drobo earlier this year at Photoshop World in Orlando. The price, versatility and ease of use made it extremely attractive. We waited most of the year to see how it would hold up to reviews and after much debate, we concluded that it does exactly what it claims and the apparent risks are no different than with any other NAS or RAID system. The simple fact is that hardware will fail and there is no perfect solution, but this system makes it simple and easy to make your data more secure and at a price that's much easier to swallow than most storage systems. For our photography and design business, our drobo is the right solution and we recommend this product.
A solid external SATA HD2008-11-304 / 5
Its been 6 months since I've used this external Hard Drive I am very please despite some imperfections.

The GOODS
-Able to combine different SATA hard drive size.
-Able to detect and warn capacity limit
-Gives indication light to warn possible problems.
-Does not need to defragment or clean-up drives. Drobo will automatically maintain when necessary
-Automatically backup files. When data is corrupted it will restore to its previous condition.
-Automatically copies the files when inserting a new drive.

The BAD
-Does not have a reset/power switch. You have to manually remove USB and power cords to reset.
-9 out of 10 times Drobo will not detect that you have started your computer. In which case you would need to remove the USB and power cords to reset.
-When I bought this unit I got it with 2 1-Terabyte hard drives. Drobo said it only detects just 927 Gig. So I'm missing 1473 Gig. Even with the back up I should be getting around 1.7 terabyte.
