| Good, But Not Perfect | 2010-09-05 | 4 / 5 |
| I would say I'm happy with these but there are some issues.
Someone mentioned problems with wireless keyboard and mice when using the headset. I noticed a few days ago my wireless logitech mouse seems to be acting odd (occasional random actions and buttons being pushed) while using the headphones. I happen to have a bluetooth version of the same mouse lying around so I switched which appeared to fix the issue. I didn't equate this to the headphones until I rxead the other review. The wired model may be a bit better if you do use wireless gear. I'm fortunate enough to have the spare bluetooth mouse which appears to overcome this problem...
Occasionally while playing I also hear stutters and cracks. They don't happen a lot but they do happen and I'm playing long enough to notice them.
I also had some issues with mac voice chat, that I eventually learned were no fault of the headphones. As it turns out voice chat built into WoW seemingly disables itself completely when you aren't around others with voice chat enabled... This gave the appearance of being broken even though it wasn't...
Also battery time isn't living up to what I expected. On work nights the battery works fine however on weekend days where I play for almost the full day the battery seems to go out while I'm still using it. Fortunately the USB charging cable makes getting power pretty easy but if it had a little more battery time I wouldn't need to ever worry about doing this at all...
Comfort wise its quite comfortable, though a little on the heavy site. On my head the thing does look almost ridiculously huge. The weight isn't horrible, and after a while I stop noticing it. It does get rather hot on warm days (which is pretty much every day in my area). I do get hot easily so this contributes. However it does seem to me that they don't get quite as hot as I originally expected prior to buying them. The ear pieces also rotate 90 degrees which allows me to slide them around my neck and point the earpieces up. With the built in volume buttons I can then turn the volume up and still make out some of the audio, while being able to talk to people or walk around. Its nice to be able to queue up for a battle and be able to go to the bathroom or grab a snack and still hear the ready for battle sound. They feel rather durable, but I haven't really pushed it to see how durable they are...
Sound quality is good, but I'm still not certain I'm really getting surround sound. Unfortunately there is very little in the way of instructions so I'm left guessing what balance between the control panel "Surround" setting and WoW's built in sound options work best.
And in the end I'm still waiting on the release of new light plates. They come with a choice between Horde or those other guys. Eventually new plates will supposedly be released for purchase, but when is pretty much the still lingering question... |
| Loved them, until the spontaneously SNAPPED after having them for 4 months. | 2010-09-04 | 1 / 5 |
| | So I bought these headphones when they first came out, because i'd been looking for a good gaming headset for WoW, and these were obviously perfect. They were absolutely everything i expected. Easy to use, crystal clear sound, very reliable, almsot no complaints. I also babbied the HELL out of them. I bought them with my own money, and they arent exactly cheap, so i treated them like treasure. Then one day roughly 4 months after recieving them, I went to put them on. I spread apart the ear cups in proper fashion to put on a headset, and the SNAPPED. Right at the thin piece of plstic connecting the ear cup to the headband on the right side, and were, and still are, only being held on by a wire. Neadless to say i proceeded to scream like a little girl. So of course the first thing i did was get on the website and see what i could do to replace them. And what i found was that they needed a copy of the recipt, and the serial number. easy. i got on and printed a copy on the invoice, and then looked on the headset for the serial number...... whats this......? THE SERIAL NUMBER WASN'T ON THE HEADSET. I looked it up, and the only place to find the serial number for these headphones, is on the original box. and after testdriving the headphones for several weeks, i found no need in keeping the box. I tried everything else possible to try and get ahold of creativelabs to find out if there was anything else i could do, but every attempt at contact led me back to the SAME email page, asking for the SAME serial number. I search often, but i've still found no other means of contacting these people to see if I can get these replaced. I'm only a few more frustrating sessions on their website away from getting on a plane with my broken headphones, and flying to HQ and slamming them on the receptionists desk, demading to see the CEO. Bottom line, the headphones are fantstic quality in every other way then being structuraly reliable. Which is most important. And if you're unfortunate enough to have problem with that, customer support is surprisingly UNsupportive. Sure, if i was a little smatter and kept the box, this would be alot easier. But still, they should have more then ONE way of contacting them for the problem at hand. DO NOT RECOMMEND. |

| | I purchased these headphones less than 1 month ago and am returning them for the 2nd time due to issues with them. The first return was due to the fact that after owning them for 1 week they snapped into 2 pieces, so I figured I had just gotten a bad egg, now the provided USB cable has completely stopped working. I used a different compatable USB cable and they work just fine. Creative used to be a good name in my book, but as of late between the almost non-existance of customer support and poor craftsmanship I would STAY AWAY FROM CREATIVE PRODUCTS!! This is the second headset I have purchased and will be my last the first was Creative Labs HS-1000 Fatal1ty USB Gaming Headset with Sound Blaster X-Fi Technology (Black) and only lasted about 6 months. If you want a good quaity headset I would recomend going with the SteelSeries Siberia Full-Size USB Headset (White) or the Razer Megalodon 7.1 Surround Sound USB Gaming Headset (Black) |
| Great, but I wish it was not a USB headset | 2010-08-15 | 3 / 5 |
| | The versaitily and universaly usefulness of a normal set of headphones far outweight the fun factor of USB and the nifty capabilities contained herein. The microphone gets flakey and garbles the sound now and then as well (even with the voice changing stuff completely disabled). Probably need to return it. |
| The headset that changed my gaming experience | 2010-08-04 | 4 / 5 |
| Overall, I would have to say that this headset is just about as awesome as I expected. The sound quality is amazing in-game, and the wireless feature really makes a difference. In fact, once I had to leave my computer to talk to my mother three rooms away and the wireless feature allowed me to talk to her, while still letting me keep tabs on what was happening back on the game. When the sound of a dungeon invite came across my speakers, I was able to hear it and get back to my computer in time to accept the invite. For all of the people who know what I'm talking about, this is rather important, seeing as you can wait in a queue for a dungeon from anywhere between 5 minutes to half an hour. As I've had times where I end up being booted out of the queue because I took a 3min trip to the bathroom, the wireless feature really took away the frustration.
Anyway, I also love the structure of the headset itself. I've often received the comment that I look like mission control during a launch, but I feel incredibly comfortable, so I don't care. Plus, it looks pretty bad a** when compared to other headsets. I also love the changing colors on the earpieces themselves (i've forgotten their name), and the settings are easy to use. The detachable mic is also a major plus, because it's just extraneous material that could possibly be damaged when not voice-chatting. It also makes the headset look slightly more normal, especially in public, where people give you funny looks when they see you have a microphone headset on. With the mic detached, you look slightly more normal, with really cool looking professional seeming headphones on.
As for the voice changing capabilities, I have mixed feelings. The settings are easy to use, and there are multiple voices to choose from, but I do wish that there was more variance between settings. i love the malganis and felguard ones, but I feel that the gnome, dwarf, and female bloodelf settings all sound like gnome. This could be because this product isn't exactly geared toward female players, and we tend to have higher voice pitches, but I'm not sure. I just felt it was sort of a let down when those voices sounded very similar and too high pitched in some cases. Also, I would love it if there were more voice changing selections, or even if there was a custom setting where you could increase or decrease pitch to the level you want for each setting. That may actually be an option, but I have not found it as of yet. If I really had to get picky, I would ask for a more detailed manual, or even tips and tricks to go with it.
Otherwise, this headset is the best I've had! |
