Beautiful and relatively compact case. Works with regular 3.5" HDDs and 5.25" optical drives, and also has a built-in power supply (it doesn't require any special drives like a slim DVD-ROM or a 2.5" HDD, or a brick power supply some more compact cases need). The quality is good too.
I built two computers for my kids using these cases, D945GCLF2 motherboards, 2GB RAM, one SATA HDD and one DVD-RW drive. I removed fans (but not heatsinks) from motherboards, as they were too noisy and one of them got stuck. So far computers work without any issues. (I guess newer builders would prefer D510MO motherboard, which has passive cooling anyway).
Notes:
- Take out power supply before installing other parts. Install it back after all parts are assembled.
- Older version (one I received in 2008) came with only one SATA power connector, newer one (2009) has two of them.
- If you don't like mirror finish, you could consider Apex MI-008 case, which has exactly the same design except of the front panel.
- Initially I used one of the cases for HTPC, but I converted it to a regular PC later (Atom-based motherboard worked fine with an analog TV card, but was not powerful enough to deal with a digital TV card). See: [...] |

Worked for 1 Day. Because my motherboard was backordered, I missed the 30 day return window. Think Apex will stand behind a product that failed immediately?

| I ordered the black front but received the silver one. This case comes with a plastic film covering all outside surfaces. When I removed it some residue was left on the front. I tried to remove it with a microfiber cloth and it scratched the mirror finish. This was the same cloth used to clean a HDTV screen. I can't believe that it could be scratched so easily. The piano black finish on the rest of the case also scratched easily. By the time I was done, it looked like I retrieeved it from the junk yard. The inside is tight. You will have to remove the power supply before installing anything. The power supply cables are longer then necessary and cause everything to be tighter. There is no fan and the heat builds up quick. My Atom 330 was running at 54 degrees centigrade. You will have to use a slot fan to cool it which will eliminate the installation of a card in the 1 slot you probably have on the motherboard. If your goal is to build a computer that look so beat up that nobody would steal it, this is the case for you. |
